Our Melbourne Holiday.... ( Part 1)

We've Been on Holiday to Melbourne....

Wow, what a whirlwind week.

We had planned this holiday to Melbourne about 3 months ago. Everything was organised and I only had a few things to do the day before we left ( last Friday). Friday morning and Paul and I woke up with the vomits.... OH NO!!!!! We think it was food poisoning from some takeaway we had while the boys stayed and Ma & Pa's house.
We spent the day in bed thinking we would have to postpone by one day so we could recover. In the meantime the boys just had to fend for themselves. They ate lots of sandwiches.....

Saturday morning and we felt just ok. We thought about it and decided to head off. I had to do a rush finish to the packing and off we headed down the highway. By lunchtime we were feeling alot better and looking forward to the rest of our holiday.

The first night we were at Albury. It was freeeezing. The boys had travelled really well with no technology ( computers, tv, phone)
The second day we went to Glenrowan to the site of the infamous shootout with Ned Kelly and the troopers.

Then we headed west across Victoria to Shepparton, Bendigo & down to Ballarat.

Shepparton was a huge surprise. It is a huge food bowl. If it can be grown, it is grown here on mass. There were miles of fruit trees, tomato plants and cows. Unfortunately being Winter there was nothing on the trees but they still made chocolate from the milk from the cows...yum.....
In town we found a park with heaps of fibreglass cows with artwork on them. Archer had to have his photo with all of them.

Bendigo. We were only passing through Bendigo but if you are here you have to stop at Bendigo Pottery. OMG. It was awesome. Of course I had to get something from here. Just a little something...

Next on to Ballarat. It's such a beautiful town. The historic buildings are amazing.
We stayed in a lovely Big 4 holiday park. We would love to come back here one day.
It was still freezing. I think we chose the coldest week of the year to travel.

The next morning we were up early to have a look around Ballarat. We found the best kids park that I've ever seen. It was huge.

It was on the banks of a lake that was used for the rowing for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.

Sovereign Hill is a must if you are in Ballarat. It is an open air museum showing how life in the Ballarat Goldfields was in the 1800's. There is heaps to do here.

Coach rides

English 9 pin bowling

Gold panning

Climbing high above the town

We had a great time but we had to head off after lunch. My sister Monique and her family were meeting us in Melbourne.

More Melbourne on the next post....

Easter Sunday 2011

We were up early because the Easter Bunny had been.
The boys were ichin' to get those foil wrappers off. A couple of quick eggs, Chocolate and chicken, for breakfast and we had to get ready fast as we were heading out to the Hunter Valley Gardens.

It is so beautiful here.

We headed straight up to the Storybook Garden for the kids to do the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

All the boys being Statues...

When we got home from our garden adventure, we called the Grandparents to come up for a BBQ. It was a few days out from Mum's 65th birthday, so a celebration was in order. We HAD to have cake.
Happy Birthday Mum & Ma....

It was a beautiful crisp evening, so after dinner we started the bon fire up. It was so nice warming my toes by the crackling fire.

Thank you family for a fun Easter weekend
Cheers

Easter Saturday 2011

The boys have been on school holidays for 2 weeks and it's time to end it with a bang.
Monique, Nick, Luca & Remi came to spend a couple of days with us. It's always nice to have family at the farm.

They arrived from the big smoke just before lunch on Saturday, dropped of their stuff and out we headed to the Historic town of Wollombi. This whole area was once frequented by a number of Bushranges back in the day. It feels like you've stepped back in time.( If only there wasn't 500 people there to share the experience with us). It's become quite the yuppie hangout with tonnes of people coming from all over to share a little slice of the past.

All Our Boys...

The boys had fun in the paddock behind the pub. Rolling down the grassy hill, running free and meeting other kids. Lunch was chips and sausage sangers, topped off with a beer for the big boys.

 Harvey's...

Tyacke's...
A walk through town with little ones and all that traffic wasn't as fun as it could have been, so over to the park we headed to burn off a little more energy before the drive home. Monique and I checked out the local markets. Oh! there was lots of other peoples trash that could have been my treasure. I came away with a funky green plate that may have been from anytime between the1940's to the 1970's. I love it and it will look great hanging on the kitchen wall.

We then headed off home for the boys to get some outside play time in before dark.
We had a great day.

Cheers
